Amanda’s passion is to help children and families find compassion for themselves. Because of this, she loves to teach parents new ways to cope with life and relationships. When teaching the skills of Therapeutic Parenting in parent coaching, Amanda is a lifesaver. During coaching, she uses her playful sense of humor and relaxed demeanor to guide parents/care-givers. As a result, parents have more meaningful and positive interactions with their children. For example, she teaches storytelling, play, and brainstorming to engage parents in the learning process.
Amanda gathers information about childhood experiences, family of origin, and current personal concerns. After this, she guides parents to self-aware and self-compassion to parent through difficulties in constructive ways. She believes that everyone strives for significance and acceptance. Therefore, she provides an atmosphere of open space during each parent consultation.
Amanda is certified in the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor and as a Registered Play Therapist. She holds a Masters of Professional Counseling, from CACREP accredited Texas State University located in San Marcos, Texas. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The University of Kansas, located in Lawrence, Kansas.
Before becoming a therapist, Amanda spent thirteen years working with child education and home care. Including pre-school teacher, para-professional, care giver, and Nanny, Amanda has a keen eye for families. After years of working with children she became inspired. Her inspiration was to help children and families who were in emotional distress. Something such as a simple need of encouragement, guidance, and hope is what every parent needs.
Parenting is one of the most rewarding and most challenging journeys you will ever experience. One that comes with no instructions, no blueprint, and often no support. Amanda offers parent coaching as a way to help and equip you for the marathon of parenthood. Parent coaching is a tailored approach to helping parents and children strive in relationship with each other.
Amanda also offers a variety of parenting presentations that can be done in both lecture and interactive class. Whether it be in the format of individuals and groups. (call for topic inquiries and/or classes tailored to your groups’ need). These lectures/classes are 2-3 hours in length and run between $250-$400 depending on length and class size. These teachings are appropriate for parents, medical personal, early childhood educators, nanny/babysitting staff, and schools.
